Mets take two against the Orioles on the road winning 3-1. First back-to-back road wins for the Mets since late July of last year. Mets also go six games over .500 on the season.

Game Summary

Mets imported arm, Hisanori Takahashi had his fifth major league start with the Mets. And for the first time, he went seven innings. And quite the seven innings they were. He only gave up one run on six hits. He walked none and uncharacteristically only struck out two batters, way under his normal number. Takahashi is also third on the team in strikeouts with 52, behind Pelfrey and Santana who both have 58 Ks. It’s sad that Takahashi has had several good starts and is rewarded by being replaced by John Maine for his next start. Takahashi will be back in the bullpen, competing for the setup job most likely with Mejia, Nieve and Feliciano. Takahashi gets his fifth win of the season.

The trusty bullpen duo of Feliciano & KRod combined for the eighth and ninth innings. Together gave up two hits and struck out one. Rodriguez also gets his thirteenth save of the season.

Mets offense started early in the game. Real early with a lead off homerun from Reyes. Followed by a fielder’s choice RBI from Wright in the sixth and a solo homerun from Francoeur in the eighth. Mets as a team only had five hits on the game, two of them coming from Jose Reyes. The 3-7 hitters had a combined 0-18 night with a fielder’s choice RBI from David Wright, and Ike Davis’ first career stolen base. However, the Mets did have the same number of strikeouts as they had number of hits. Five each.

The Mets continued their stellar defense with their string of double plays. They were able to turn two of them tonight, to make it six double plays the Mets have turned in this series alone.

Turning Point

Reyes’ lead off homerun was what got the Mets the early momentum in the game to win.

Game Ball
