With Brodie Van Wagenen and AJ Hinch being good friends dating back to their playing days for Stanford University, there has been rampant speculation the Mets will attempt to pry Hinch away from the Houston Astros. With there rumored to be a bombshell candidate in what is becoming a drawn out search process, the Hinch speculation has not died down.

On the topic of Hinch’s chances of replacing Mickey Callaway, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports “Hinch has been telling people it’s zero percent.” While the Mets may have some level of interest in Hinch, his saying there is a zero percent chance of his departing the Astros to come to the Mets should put an end to the speculation.

With Hinch completely out of the picture, this leaves the known pool of finalists for the Mets job to be Carlos Beltran, Tim Bogar, Pat Murphy, Eduardo Perez, and Derek Shelton. The third and hopefully final round of interviews have been held up by the 2019 World Series. Once the Nationals championship parade is over, the Mets can move forward and hire a new manager who will not be named Hinch.
