First reported by Kiley McDaniel of ESPN, the MLB and MLBPA are close to striking a deal on a resolution for the 2020 MLB Amateur Draft.

According to McDaniel, the Draft would likely occur sometime in July, be shortened significantly from 40 rounds to either 5 or 10. Players bonuses would receive 10% of their bonuses upfront, 45% in 2021, and 45% in 2022.

Additionally, undrafted players can sign for a maximum bonus of $10,000, if they chose to do so.  McDaniel adds that shorter rounds and such a low signing cap for undrafted players will likely push a lot of high school seniors and college underclassmen back to school. Subsequently, the 2023 MLB Draft will likely be loaded with college talent.

McDaniel reports that a deal could come down as soon as today, and Jeff Passan of ESPN later confirmed the report, citing that the two sides are close on several key issues.
