The Mes announced on Thursday afternoon that they’ve optioned relievers Paul Sewald and Daniel Zamora to Triple-A Syracuse.
The left-handed Zamora was extremely impressive in five innings this spring, allowing only one run and striking out eight. He faced 15 right-handed batters, only three of them had hits and six of them struck out.
Zamora has a 4.08 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 17 2/3 big league innings between 2018 and 2019. The 26-year-old is on the Mets’ 40-man roster.
Sewald, 29, pitched well this spring too, giving up one run in 5 1/3 innings. In that span, he allowed one walk, one hit, and struck out five.
The right-hander has a career 5.16 ERA and 149 strikeouts in 141 1/3 major league innings. Like Zamora, he is on the 40-man roster. I recently did an interview with Sewald for MMO.
