According to MLB Network insider Jon Morosi, the Mets will interview current general manager of the Cleveland Indians, Mike Chernoff for the president of baseball operations position with the Mets.

The New Jersey native was a tied to the general manager’s position back in 2018, but decided to not accept an interview, the general manager position ultimately went to Brodie van Waganen. Chernoff has been with the Indians since 2003, where he joined the organization as an intern and worked up the ranks before being named general manager of the Indians in 2015.

Contrary to Morosi’s report that the Mets have received permission to interview Chernoff, Mets majority owner Steve Cohen has taken to Twitter (again), to dispute the claims, when he responded to a fan:

Although Cohen has disputed the claims, any interest from Chernoff to come to New York and vice versa for a potential working relationship is a great opportunity for both sides.

The Mets have been previously denied permission to interview David Stearns of the Brewers and Erik Neander of the Rays.
