In a report by Mike Puma of the New York Post that suggest the Mets are showing interest in Gary LaRocque for their general manager, it’s also brought to light that Mets owner Fred Wilpon is unlikely to hire a young, analytical-driven person to be the next Mets GM.

The Mets are said to be looking for an external candidate to replace the ailing Sandy Alderson though team officials believe that it’s possible the Mets have been too analytical-driven in recent seasons under the helm of Alderson.

LaRocque, 65, is currently the Director of Player Development for the St. Louis Cardinals and worked as the Mets’ scouting director from 1998-2003. He was responsible for drafting such as David Wright and Scott Kazmir during his Mets tenure.
