Just mere hours after hearing about J.D. Davis resuming his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse and being on the cusp of getting activated off the 10-day injured list, there’s more good news for the soon-to-be not-so-injury-riddled New York Mets.

Andy Martino of SNY is reporting that to make room on the 26-man active roster for Pete Alonso, Kevin Pillar, and Seth Lugo, New York is planning to option Khalil Lee, Patrick Mazeika, and Sean Reid-Foley to Syracuse.

The 22-year-old Lee often looked overmatched at the plate as he struck out 13 times in 18 plate appearances, but he contributed some excellent defense in the outfield. With Alonso coming back to the active roster, a need for Mazeika to be on the big-league roster is redundant since James McCann and Tomas Nido are anticipated to platoon behind the plate. He did enjoy some folk hero-type moments during his short stint with the Mets, and he didn’t need to get a hit every time to do so.

Reid-Foley has come up big in important spots for New York and has impressed with a 1.98 ERA in 13.2 innings. By the look of how things have gone the first couple of months in 2021, we could be seeing the right-handed reliever back in the majors at some point to continue helping the bullpen.
