Per Mike Puma of the New York Post, there have been talks between outfielder/DH J.D. Martinez‘s camp and the Mets. The free agent hit .271/.321/.572 for the Dodgers last season while slugging 33 home runs.

Martinez, 36, is a four-time All-Star who would bolster the lineup and perhaps provide protection for Pete AlonsoMark Vientos, a 24-year-old who hit .211/.253/.367 in 233 plate appearances last year, is the likely DH if the season began today.

With Spring training games starting in just a couple of weeks, the Mets and other teams attached to Martinez likely are waiting for his price tag to drop.
