According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, outfielder Kevin Pillar has become a free agent after he declined his player option and the Mets declined their option.

It was a 2.9 million player option and a $6.4 team option with a $1.4 million buyout.

Pillar, 32, hit just .231/.277/.415 with 15 home runs, 47 RBIs, and a 90 wRC+ in 124 games for the Mets in 2021. Pillar missed time during the season after getting hit in the face that caused multiple nasal fractures. Despite the gruesome injury, Pillar missed only two weeks.

The veteran was around average in the outfield defensively with 2 defensive runs saved in left field, -1 DRS in center, and -2 in right field.

Pillar also posted a 0.7 fWAR, his lowest since the 2014 season in Toronto.

Pillar becomes the Mets National League leading 12th free agent.
