According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Red Sox assistant GM Zack Scott, D-Backs assistant GM Jared Porter, A’s executive Billy Owens, and former Marlins president Michael Hill are finalists to become the Mets next general manager.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that there’s additional unknown candidates still in the running to be the Mets GM.

This is the first time we’ve heard about Scott or Porter being involved in the Mets search, while we knew Hill interviewed (though assumed for when Mets were looking for a president of OPS), and Owens has long-been a rumored target.

After new Mets owner Steve Cohen took over the franchise, it was believed that his team president Sandy Alderson was looking to hire both a president of baseball ops and a GM. However, in late November, Alderson announced that the team had shifted to looking to just a GM and he would handle more responsibility than initially expected.
