The Boston Red Sox have agreed to re-sign infielder Eduardo Nunez on a one-year deal pending a physical, reports FanRag Sports’ Robert Murray. While these physicals are typically a formality, ESPN’s Buster Olney points out that given Nunez’s injury history, the deal is still no sure-thing.

Nunez had been linked to the Mets for most of the winter before New York inked Todd Frazier to a two-year deal two weeks ago.

A shortstop, third baseman, and second baseman, Nunez split time between San Francisco and Boston this past season, joining the Red Sox after a July trade. Overall, he batted .313/.341/.460 with 12 home runs and 24 stolen bases, the best offensive season of his career. He finished particularly strong down the stretch, hitting .321/.353/.539 with eight homers after being dealt to Boston.
