Triple-A shortstop Wilmer Flores blasted a three-run homer on Sunday to give the Las Vegas 51s a 5-1 lead. It was the third home run in two games for the red-hot Flores who has eight hits in his last 16 at-bats.

Flores is now batting .290 (29 for 100) this season, with four home runs, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

He has started 22 of his 24 games at shortstop with one appearance each at first and second base.

Last week, Mike Puma of the New York Post said a source told him that the Mets aren’t optimistic that Flores can become an everyday shortstop.

However, a couple of scouts recently compared Flores to Cardinals shortstop Jhonny Peralta defensively.
