Yesterday at Citi Field, the Mets hosted their first of six annual Citi Field Kids Days, where children from all over the New York area are treated to a private tour of the Mets clubhouse and a complimentary lunch.

The kids and the media filed into the Mets clubhouse for a brief presentation and, to the children’s surprise, out stepped Terry Collins flanked by Bobby Parnell, Dillon Gee, R.A. Dickey, Mike Pelfrey, Josh Thole and everyone’s favorite, Jose Reyes.

Collins had some interesting introductions for some of his players which I will get into later on.

The players fielded questions from the kids and then signed autographs and posed for pictures. Later, some of the kids played video games against some of their favorite Mets and even Mr. Met.

Personally, it was my first time in the Mets clubhouse and only one word can sum it up:

Heaven.

It was awesome to see the neon baseball figures adorn each locker and the carpets. It brought back some good old memories of Big Shea.

Collins commented on the event and what it means to give back to the children.

“That’s what we do here,” said Collins. “One time I sat in that group. I remember walking into Tiger Stadium my first time when I was a little leaguer. I smiled for two weeks. To see those faces when those guys walked through the room, that’s what it’s all about.”

As has been the theme this offseason, Collins plans on revamping the culture of the clubhouse.

“The plan basically is to make sure we execute better and try to keep the attitude as positive as we can around here,” said Collins. “They’re talented; this is a good team. If we keep them on the field, we’ve got a chance to compete.”

Similar to the coverage of the Holiday Party, I will release two interviews per day. Josh Thole and R.A. Dickey were especially impressive, so be sure to stayed tuned for those as well as the others. Here is the schedule:
