With a stellar start from Jacob deGrom, the Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 2-0 in their first home game of the season. DeGrom shutdown the Phillies’ lineup, allowing no runs while striking out three batters and walking none.

Following the game, there were a lot of great reactions and comments to the Mets’ exciting win.

“That was a lot of fun. I was looking forward to it ever since they announced it. It was like my debut. My offspeed wasn’t really that good and I was having a hard time locating my fastball, so I really had to bear down mentally.” – Jacob deGrom

“You’ve got to believe you’re a good team. And if that means outwardly showing it, I don’t know. I think you have to go out there with the intent that you’re going to win the game and the belief that you’re going to win the game. You have to walk that way and play that way.” – Michael Cuddyer

“As far as the group of guys, and the way we’ve approached it seven games into the season, I haven’t been part of a team that has been this diligent about grinding out at-bats, about trying to win every pitch. It’s fun, and I think we get at the end of the game — we’re trying to be so focused, at the end of the game, we’re exhausted a little bit. But it’s a good exhausted.” – Daniel Murphy

“We’ve all done it, and I’ve been guilty of it also — talking about how good we should be or how good we think we are. But when push comes to shove, the only way to become truly confident is to become good at winning — and that takes wins, especially the first month. Playing as many games as we are in our division, it’s a good chance for us to gain true confidence, not the confidence of talking about it or thinking that you’re good — actually going out there and being good.” – David Wright

“I’ve sensed something different from the first day I got down to Florida. There’s just a different energy, a different focus, and a different intensity, and it’s just fun to be around. It’s one of those things where you know you have a chance, and everybody else feels it. You don’t go out there hoping to win anymore, you go out there expecting to win. It’s just an aura, it’s just something that you can feel. It’s very contagious, and it’s a fun thing to be a part of.” – Anthony Recker

“It’s good to win like this. Now we get to see the big boy [Matt Harvey] go tomorrow. That’ll be fun. We’ve done a lot of yapping. You have to believe in yourself. When you do, good things happen.” – Terry Collins

“In a game in which an imperfect deGrom, the offense and the closer all had their struggles, the Mets still managed to make their fans feel like Opening Day had been perfect in every way.” – Bill Madden, NY Daily News

“For the purists among us, the Mets’ opener at Citi Field was the way it ought be — tense, taut, tight and terrific on the field.” – Marty Noble, MLB.com

“Happy opening. I’m excited about this team and I’m hopeful. One doesn’t know — we’ve all been around a long time — but the fact is I like the guys on this team. I think there is a lot of talent and I think there is a lot of character.” – Fred Wilpon

“It just makes you that much more hungry to get back to what it felt like in 2006, running out at Shea Stadium with the place packed, and Shea Stadium swaying back and forth. It just pushes you and motivates you that much more ’cause you get a little taste of it and you want more.” – David Wright

“Body language speaks more do than what you say and all of us believe in each other and you can tell by the way we’re all standing tall and have our chests out, and we all believe in each other.” – Travis d’Arnaud
