The New York Mets came back from a five run deficit to defeat the Oakland Athletics 6-5 on Saturday night at Citi Field and stretch their winning streak to four games.

Pitching

Zack Wheeler’s struggles continued as he his still yet to win a game since May 20. Wheeler was welcomed to the game rudely as Matt Joyce led off the game with a homer to center field. The Athletics added three more in the fourth to jump out to a 4-0 lead. Wheeler then allowed a towering solo shot to Matt Chapman in the third.

In total, Wheeler allowed five runs on seven hits while striking out six. The command issues continued for Wheeler as he walked four on the night.

Josh Smoker tossed a scoreless sixth inning in his return from the disabled list.

Josh Edgin pitched his way into and out of trouble in the seventh. With two on and one out, Edgin got Bruce Maxwell to ground into a 1-6-3 double play. Edgin then pitched a scoreless eighth to keep it a one run ballgame.

Hansel Robles worked around a two out walk to pitch a scoreless top of the ninth. Robles picked up his sixth win of the season.

Hitting

The Mets offense was stymied by Sean Manea through five innings. However, in the sixth the offense finally broke through for four runs.

After Wilmer Flores led off the inning with a double, Jay Bruce smacked his 25th home run of the season to dead center, cutting the lead to 5-2.

Two batters later, Jose Reyes was gifted his second triple of the game as Khris Davis misplayed a fly ball in left field. A batter later Travis d’Arnaud reached base for the third time in the game, lining an RBI single to get the Mets within two runs.

After Curtis Granderson reached on a fielders choice, Michael Conforto drove him home with an opposite field RBI double, making it a one run game, 5-4.

In the bottom of the eighth with two outs Travis d’Arnaud picked up his third hit of the game with a double to dead center. A batter later, Lucas Duda came up huge as he lined a pinch hit game tying RBI single to center against a left hander. Duda had previously been hitting .196 in 55 PA’s against lefties this season.

With two-outs in the ninth, Wilmer Flores smacked the second walk-off home run of his career sending the crowd home happy.

The Mets send Rafael Montero (1-6, 5.40 ERA) to the mound as the Mets look to secure the series sweep. Montero will be opposed by rookie Daniel Gusset (1-5, 5.79 ERA) at 1:10 PM at Citi Field.
