The New York Mets (66-87) beat the Washington Nationals (92-61) by a score of 7-6 on Friday night at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Jacob deGrom (15-9, 3.55 ERA) was supposed to start on Friday, but his start was pushed back to Sunday due to nausea and an upset stomach. Robert Gsellman (7-7, 5.22 ERA) pitched in deGrom’s place while on regular rest.

Gsellman took a step back from the success he experienced in his previous start against the Atlanta Braves on Sunday when he tossed seven innings and limited the Braves to three hits, no walks, and one unearned run. In this start he gave up four hits, three walks, and six runs (five earned) over five innings.

Chasen Bradford pitched the sixth for the Mets. He held to the Nationals to one hit while striking out one.

Paul Sewald came in for the seventh and tossed a 1-2-3 inning.

Sewald stayed on for the eighth and got the first two outs before being replaced by Jerry Blevins. Blevins then got Daniel Murphy out on a fly ball to right field for the final out of the inning.

AJ Ramos came on for a save opportunity in the ninth. He failed to pick up his 28th save of the season for his second outing in a row as he was pulled after putting runners on first and third.

Josh Smoker replaced Ramos with one out in the ninth. After he got an out, Jeurys Familia was brought into the game to get the final out. He got the out and in doing so picked up his fourth save of the season; his first since May 5.

Offense:

Mets batters faced Edwin Jackson (5-6, 4.96 ERA) of the Nationals. The Mets got their first run off Jackson in the second on a solo shot to left field from Travis d’Arnaud.

After the Nationals took a 6-1 lead in the top of the fifth, the Mets were able to tie the game by scoring five in the bottom of the fifth. Nori Aoki started off the scoring with a RBI single. Later in the inning Asdrubal Cabrera also drove in a run on a single. The most damage was done by d’Arnaud who smacked a three-run homer to center field to tie the game.

Aoki gave the Mets the lead in the sixth on a ground-rule double to right center field.

On Deck:

The Mets play the second game of this three-game series on Saturday. Noah Syndergaard (1-2, 3.29 ERA) is scheduled to make his first start since April 30 and will be allowed to go one inning before Matt Harvey (5-6, 6.59 ERA) takes over for him in the second. Stephen Strasburg (14-4, 2.60 ERA) will be on the mound for the Nationals. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m and the game will be televised on PIX11.
