The New York Mets (62-79) beat the Cincinnati Reds (61-81) 5-0 on Friday night at Citi Field. The Mets have now won three straight games.
Pitching:
Seth Lugo (5-4, 5.00 ERA) started for the Mets. In his last start, Lugo was working on one of his best outings of the season before things blew up in the sixth inning. This time he was able to consistently put up zeros throughout the entire start. Lugo went six scoreless innings and limited the Reds to four hits and one walk while striking out four batters.
Tommy Milone came into the game for the seventh and fired a perfect inning.
Paul Sewald started the eighth inning and got two outs while giving up a hit. Jerry Blevins then came in for the final out. He gave up a hit before getting Adam Duvall out on strikes.
Blevins stayed on for the ninth and left after loading the bases with one out. AJ Ramos came in for the save opportunity that Blevins created. He collected his 27th save of the season by getting out of the jam with only one run coming around to score.
Offense:
The Mets were up against Amir Garrett (3-6, 7.41 ERA) of the Reds. They handled him well as they got five hits, two walks, and four runs off him in the five innings he pitched.
The Mets scored their first run off Garrett in the second inning. Travis Taijeron hit a solo homer to left center field to put the Mets on the board. He also doubled later in the game.
Jose Reyes followed in the third with a solo shot of his own to left center field.
Reyes struck again in the fifth with a two-run homer to left center field to put the Mets up 4-0. He now has 101 career home runs as a Mets, the 13th player in franchise history to hit at least 100.
Brandon Nimmo was on base two more times tonight with a single and walk.
On Deck:
The Mets play the third game of this four-game series on Saturday. RHP Rafael Montero (4-9, 5.21) faces Homer Bailey (4-7, 7.24 ERA) who has put together a few good outings in a row. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
