The New York Mets were swept by the New York Yankees by a final score of 7-5. The Yankees took all four Subway Series games in 2017.

Pitching

Well Steven Matz was not effective to say the least. An early home run by Gary Sanchez really did the Mets and him in.

After two quick innings, Matz unraveled with no help from his defense. His final line read: 3.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R (6 ER), 2 BB, 4 K.

Matz now has an unsightly 6.08 ERA for the season.

Chasen Bradford went 2.2 scoreless, Hansel Robles went two scoreless, and AJ Ramos chipped in a scoreless inning but as Gary Cohen said, it was well after the horse left the barn.

Chasen Shreve pitched for the Yankees meaning the only two Chasen’s in major league history pitched against each other on Thursday night.

Offense

Luis Severino was dominant for the Yankees in this one. The Mets bats were not able to keep up but they scored an unearned run in the seventh on a misplay by Aaron Judge.

The ninth got a little interesting. Travis d’Arnaud doubled, Matt Reynolds singled, and Brandon Nimmo walked to load the bases. Curtis Granderson came up and smacked the first pitch he saw for a grand slam.

Reynolds and d’Arnaud each had two hits on the night while Nimmo reached base twice off the bench.

The next three Mets went down against Dellin Betances and that would be the game.
