The New York Mets (32-41) beat the San Fransisco Giants (27-49) by the score of 11-4 Friday night at AT&T Park.

Offense

Curtis Granderson led off the game with a base hit off Giants starting pitcher Ty Blach. Asdrubal Cabrera then singled over the head of first baseman Brandon Belt and was thrown out trying to advance to second base. With Granderson now on third base, Yoenis Cespedes popped up for the second out of the inning before Wilmer Flores singled to drive in the first run of the game. Michael Conforto then singled to put runners on first and third but Travis d’Arnaud grounded out to end the inning.

The second inning was more fun for the Mets who really piled it on against the lefty Blach. Lucas Duda led off the inning with a double and after Jose Reyes popped out, Seth Lugo drove in Duda with a double of his own. A wild pitch moved Lugo to third before Granderson knocked a sac-fly to score the run.

With two out and nobody on in the second inning, Cabrera singled and Cespedes homered to left field. Following the dinger, Flores, Conforto, and d’Arnaud hit back-to-back-to-back doubles putting the Mets up 7-1.

The Mets wasted leadoff baserunners in the 3rd and 4th inning, a Reyes walk and Cespedes base hit respectively. They went down quietly in the 5th inning before they struck in the 6th inning when Granderson nubbed a one-out single to beat the shift.

Asdrubal Cabrera then knocked his third hit of the day before Cespedes cracked his third hit of the day, an RBI double to dead center field. Wilmer Flores then knocked a sac-fly to left field to score Cabrera before Michael Conforto dunked an RBI single into right field for an RBI, the Mets 10th run of the day.

After the Giants scored three runs in the bottom of the 6th inning, Lucas Duda quickly responded with a solo shot towards McCovey Cove- promising as it came off a lefty. After Jose Reyes spun into the dirt swinging at a 58-foot curveball, T.J. Rivera lined a pinch-hit single to center field. Curtis Granderson struck out looking on a curveball before Asdrubal Cabrera made a bid for his fourth hit of the day but was foiled by a leaping Brandon Crawford to end the inning.

The 8th inning featured a one-out bloop single by Wilmer Flores but that was it. Giants closer Mark Melancon came in for the top of the 9th to get some work in and was greeted by Lucas Duda who mashed one to the deepest part of the ballpark and seemed to miss a home run by mere inches. The play went under review to see if it hit a fan who was reaching for the ball and/or went over the fence but the call on the field was upheld and Duda settled for his second double and third extra base hit of the night.

After Duda recorded the Mets’ 20th hit of the night, Jose Reyes stepped to the plate with the runner in scoring position and worked a four-pitch walk. It was Reyes’ second walk of the day and he remained the only Mets starter who did not record a hit in the game. Brandon Nimmo pinch-hit and hit a slow roller to the right side which acted as a sacrifice bunt, putting runners on second and third with one out.

With the infield in, Granderson hit a shallow pop-up to left field which the left fielder made a nice running catch on to prevent the lead runner from scoring. With two outs, Cabrera struck out on three pitches, looking at a 91 mph cutter right down the middle for the final strike.

Five different Mets had three hits this evening in a nice bounce-back from the Los Angeles series. Only Jose Reyes did not record a hit, but he did walk twice. Further, only Reyes and Asdrubal Cabrera did not record an RBI. Yoenis Cespedes, who was a triple shy of the cycle, led the team with 3 RBIs with Wilmer Flores and Michael Conforto each driving in two runs. Their 20 hits tied a season high.

Pitching

Seth Lugo got the start for the Mets this evening and after he was greeted by a Brandon belt RBI double in the first inning, he settled in well. He cruised until the sixth inning when the Giants threatened, loading the bases with one out on a double, walk, and an infield hit. Brandon Crawford narrowly missed a grand slam, socking one to deep center field testing Conforto’s ability to play center field. Conforto passed the test with flying colors, making a great running catch on the warning track, limiting it to a sac-fly making it 10-2 Mets.

Nick Hundley then worked a 7-pitch walk to load the bases again with Gorkys Hernandez stepping to the plate. On his 95th pitch of the day, Hernandez lined a base hit to center field over Asdrubal Cabrera‘s head to score two runs, making it 10-4 Mets and knocking Lugo from the game.

Paul Sewald came in with runners on first and second and two outs, striking out Kelby Tomlinson on four pitches to end the threat and the inning.

Jerry Blevins came in for the 7th inning to try and shake off the previous night’s outing. He worked around a two-out base hit past Wilmer Flores for a scoreless inning. Erik Goeddel came in to preserve the lead in the 8th inning and did just that, tossing a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout.

Addison Reed pitched the bottom of the ninth inning to get some work and made quick work of the Giants to secure the win.
