The New York Mets (53-67) lost to the Miami Marlins (59-61) by a score of 3-1 at Citi Field on Friday night.

Pitching:

Chris Flexen started for the Mets tonight and had a so-so outing. He got through the first inning unscathed after walking Giancarlo Stanton. He struggled in the second, however, as he allowed a two-run homer to J.T. Realmuto.

The Marlins scored another run off of him in the third as Marcell Ozuna drove in Stanton on a sacrifice fly, which resulted from another walk by Flexen.

Flexen ran into trouble again in the sixth and was removed after recording only one out. Flexen’s final line read as 5 1/3 IP, three ER, five hits allowed, and four walks en route to being credited with the loss.

Josh Smoker replaced him and recorded the final two outs of the sixth to strand runners on second and third. Smoker would pitch a clean seventh to help get them to the eighth.

Paul Sewald replaced Smoker and got the Marlins out in order on six pitches.

Terry Collins chose to not send him out for the ninth and instead sent Jerry Blevins to the mound. He pitched a scoreless inning and recorded a strikeout.

Offense:

The Mets struggled to get into a groove against Justin Nicolino as they only were able to secure six hits over five innings and one run. That one run came in the third inning on a Wilmer Flores RBI single to drive in Juan Lagares.

The Mets only managed to record one hit in the other four innings of the game and struck out four times.

Asdrubal Cabrera and Amed Rosario combined for four of the Mets seven hits. Rosario also stole a base in the game, the third of his career.

On Deck:

The Mets will send Rafael Montero (1-8, 5.80 ERA) to the mound to try to bounce back against the Miami Marlins who will counter with Vance Worley (2-2, 4.97 ERA). First pitch is at 7:10 p.m and will be aired on WPIX.
