The New York Mets (65-86) were defeated by the Miami Marlins (71-80) 5-4 on Tuesday night in the second game of a three-game series in Miami.

Pitching:

Seth Lugo started the game for the Mets tonight pitched well against the tough Miami Marlins lineup. Outside of a Christian Yelich homer in the fourth, he managed to shut down the lineup.

He lasted five innings, while allowing one earned run, three hits, one walk. He only threw 83 pitches before being pulled from the game.

Josh Smoker relieved him and pitched a scoreless inning, while striking out one batter as well as walking one.

Jeurys Familia pitched the seventh inning and struck out two batters, walking one.

Jerry Blevins started and completed the eighth inning while walking one batter to help bridge the gap to AJ Ramos, the former Miami Marlin.

Ramos did not fare well against his former team as he managed to blow the save. He allowed a home run to Justin Bour to trim the lead to 4-2.

He then allowed two hits while striking out one to allow runners on the corners. Dee Gordon came up to the plate as pinch hitter as the potential winning run, but struck out. A.J. Ellis came up to the plate with the same opportunity and hit an RBI single to make the game a one-run lead with runners on first and second. Ichiro Suzuki drove in the tying run on another RBI single. He proceeded to walk Giancarlo Stanton on four pitches to load the bases before being pulled from the game.

Paul Sewald replaced him and struck out Christian Yelich to send the game to extra innings. He unfortunately received the loss in the tenth inning after allowing a one-out homer to J.T. Realmuto.

Offense:

The offense got off to a hot start as Jose Reyes hit a solo-homer to lead off the game.

The team didn’t strike again until the sixth inning when Travis d’Arnaud hit a two-run homer to extend the Mets lead to 3-1.

The Mets managed to score again in the ninth as Jose Reyes drove in Philip Evans on an RBI single, his fourth hit of the day.

Travis d’Arnaud recorded two hits as he and Reyes combined for six of the Mets 11 hits. Nori Aoki, Asdrubal Cabrera, Brandon Nimmo, Philip Evans, and Dominic Smith each recorded a hit a piece also.
