The New York Mets (67-90) defeated the Atlanta Braves (71-85) by a score of 3-2 in the second game of the double-header tonight at Citi Field.

Pitching:

Seth Lugo took the mound for the Mets and had his best outing since his return from the disabled list. He went six innings while allowing zero runs, two hits and striking out seven batters.

Jerry Blevins replaced him in the seventh inning and got the first two outs, but walked a batter and allowed a hit.

Chasen Bradford replaced him and got the final out of the inning. Terry Collins sent him out for the eighth inning as well but he ran into trouble. Matt Adams and Ender Inciarte hit back-to-back one out singles before he induced a force out from Ozzie Albies and retired Nick Markakis to end the threat.

Jeurys Familia came in to record the save in the ninth, but struggled allowing the tying run to come to the plate as he allowed back-to-back singles to Kurt Suzuki and Freddie Freeman to start the inning. Familia recorded an out before allowing an RBI single to Jace Peterson for the Braves first run of the night. Matt Kemp drove in another run on an RBI groundout to make the score 3-2, but got Familia one out closer to recording the save. Familia induced a Tyler Flowers groundout to seal the deal.

Offense:

The Mets offense struggled to score, but nonetheless managed to break out in the third inning with two runs. Brandon Nimmo scored on an RBI groundout by Asdrubal Cabrera while Juan Lagares scored on an RBI double by Travis d’Arnaud.

D’Arnaud delivered once again in the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run (No. 16) to extend the Mets lead to 3-0.

Brandon Nimmo tried to ignite the offense as he had three hits, including two doubles out of the lead-off spot. Matt Reynolds and Travis d’Arnaud both recorded two hits. Meanwhile, Lagares and Asdrubal Cabrera both managed to record a hit each.
