The New York Mets fell to the Washington Nationals by a score of 7-4 on Saturday afternoon at Citi Field. It was the Mets’ sixth straight loss at home to the Nationals who will go for the four game sweep on Sunday.
Pitching
Seth Lugo was handed the loss in his second start of the 2017 season. Lugo allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits while walking a pair and striking out five over 6.2 innings. It was a solid effort for Lugo despite the loss.
Jerry Blevins retired the only batter he faced in the seventh, he then allowed a hit on a dropped pop-up in the eighth. Paul Sewald allowed a two run home run in his inning of work. Addison Reed allowed two hits and a run in the ninth.
Offense
The Mets offense was nonexistent until the eighth inning aside from Yoenis Cespedes and Jay Bruce.
Cespedes and Bruce went a combined 7-for-9 at the plate with Cespedes smacking his eighth home run of the season in the eighth.
Wilmer Flores drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, and reached on a single. Jose Reyes picked up two hits including an RBI single.
Catcher Rene Rivera earned the Golden Sombrero with four strikeouts, the first of his career.
The Mets left seven runners on base and were 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

The Mets look to avoid the series sweep as they send Jacob deGrom to the mound tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 PM. He will be opposed by Joe Ross for the Nationals.
