This afternoon, the New York Mets beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 3-2 to split their four-game series.

Pitching

Seth Lugo started for New York and was dominant early before starting to struggle later in the game. This has been a trend for Lugo and something to keep an eye on. He gave up a RBI double to Tommy Pham in the sixth, and started the seventh but departed with two outs. He threw a season-high 103 pitches.

His final line: 6.2 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 5 K

Erik Goeddel came in and got the final out of the seventh but gave up a home run to Pham in the eighth to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead.

Addison Reed pitched a 1-2-3 ninth as the trade rumors swirl around him. He’s allowed only two runs in his last 20.1 innings.

Offense

Lucas Duda homered in the second inning to put the first run of the game on the board. He also made two good picks to keep T.J. Rivera from another game with multiple errors. He now has 125 home runs, the seventh most in Mets franchise history.

Wilmer Flores came on as a pinch-hitter and hit a homer off Brett Cecil to the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the eighth.

The ninth inning was very bizarre. Michael Conforto led off the inning with a walk. Two outs later, T.J. Rivera singled to put the winning run on third. The very next hitter, Jose Reyes grounded to first base but Trevor Rosenthal did not cover the base. The Mets won 3-2 for the walk-off win.

Definitely surprised the Mets have not lost a game like this.
