The New York Mets were handed a stunning 5-4  defeat by the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park on Saturday night. John Jaso snapped the 4-4 tie in the tenth with a bases loaded walk-off single.

Pitching

Zack Wheeler continued his string of recent success, as he picked up another quality start. Wheeler allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out five over six innings.

Neil Ramirez was pulled after allowing a double in the seventh, but the always dependable Jerry Blevins came in and was able to strand the man on third while picking up all three outs.

Fernando Salas retired the two batters he faced in the eighth. However closer Addison Reed had a rough showing as blew the save, allowing a run on three hits in the ninth.

Tyler Pill made his major league debut, and suffered the loss on the night. He wasn’t fooling anyone at the plate and quickly put three runners on before exiting the game. Josh Edgin inherited the bases loaded, and allowed a walk-off single to John Jaso to end the game.

Offense

Jay Bruce got the Mets scoring started as he smacked his twelfth home run of the season in the first.

Travis d’Arnaud hit his first home run since being activated from the disabled list. He also doubled, and drove in another run with an RBI single, finishing a triple shy of the cycle.

Lucas Duda stayed red hot with a pair of hits, including his sixth home run of the season.

Curtis Granderson tripled and scored a run in the second.
