The New York Mets (69-90) beat the Atlanta Braves (71-87) by a score of 7-1 on Wednesday night at Citi Field. It was the Mets final home game of 2017 and it brought their 2017 home record to 37-44.

Pitching:

Robert Gsellman (7-7, 5.38 ERA) made his final start of 2017. In what has been an extremely inconsistent season, the 24-year-old went out with a bang. Gsellman went six innings and held the Braves to six hits, one walk, and one run while striking out four.

Jamie Callahan came in for the seventh inning and tossed a perfect frame.

Chasen Bradford pitched the eighth and got out of the inning while only allowing a single.

Paul Sewald finished off the game with a scoreless inning in the ninth.

Offense:

The Mets faced Sean Newcomb (4-8, 4.26 ERA) for the third time this season. In his last two starts against the Mets, Newcomb went 1-1 and held New York to 10 hits, three walks, and three runs (two earned) over 11 2/3 innings. The Mets hit Newcomb the hardest this time around as he gave up four hits, four walks, and three runs over five innings.

After being held hitless for the first three innings, the Mets picked up their first hit and their first run in the fourth. The run came when Travis d’Arnaud grounded into a force attempt. Dansby Swanson committed an error on the play and Juan Lagares came around to score.

An inning later, d’Arnaud generated two more runs from a RBI single on a ground ball to center field.

The Mets got four more runs in the seventh after Freddie Freeman kept the inning alive with a two-out error. Dominic Smith took advantage of the error by unloading with a three-run homer to right field. A few batters later Jose Reyes drove in a run on a RBI double to left field.

On Deck:

The Mets have a day off on Thursday, but will travel to Philadelphia for their final road series of the season. Matt Harvey (5-6, 6.60 ERA) will make his final start of the season for the Mets on Friday and Ben Lively (3-7 4.35 ERA) will do the same for the Phillies. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
