The New York Mets (52-62) lost to the Philadelphia Phillies (43-71) by a score of 3-1 on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park.
Pitching
Steven Matz (2-5, 5.77 ERA) started for the Mets in this game looking to bounce back from a string of poor outings. He wasn’t lights-out, but he did make his longest outing since July 3. He went 5 2/3 innings and gave up four hits, two walks, and two runs while striking out one batter.
Chasen Bradford was called upon to get the final out in the sixth and did so successfully. He then stayed on for the seventh and had a 1-2-3 inning.
Erik Goeddel came in for the eighth and gave up a run on a sacrifice fly before getting out of the inning.
Offense
The Mets had the task of facing Aaron Nola (8-7, 3.12 ERA) who had made nine quality starts in a row. He extended that streak to 10 with his outstanding performance in this game.
Yoenis Cespedes scored the first run of the game on a solo shot to left center field in the fourth inning.
That was all the scoring for the Mets in this game, however. The team finished with a total of three hits as Amed Rosario and Asdrubal Cabrera were the only other Mets with a hit.
On Deck
The Mets will look for the series victory on Sunday as they send Chris Flexen (1-1, 8.49 ERA) to the mound. Zach Eflin (1-3, 5.67 ERA) will oppose Flexen. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
