The New York Mets (47-52) dropped the third game of their four-game series with the San Diego Padres (44-57) with a 6-3 loss on Wednesday night at Petco Park.

Pitching

Steven Matz (2-3, 4.67 ERA) took the mound for the Mets looking to rebound from a stretch of poor starts dating back to July 9. He was unable to snap his subpar streak as he went three innings and gave up six runs, nine hits, and no walks, while striking out four.

Erik Goeddel pitched the fourth inning. He had a 1-2-3 inning and picked up two strikeouts.

Tyler Pill came into the game for the fifth inning and stayed on for the sixth. He limited the Padres to one walk in his time on the mound.

Hansel Robles likewise pitched two innings for the Mets. Between the seventh and eighth innings, he gave up only one hit and struck out four.

Offense

The Mets faced Jhoulys Chacin (9-7, 4.26) whose start was pushed back one day due to back tightness. They were only able to score two runs off him on the night.

The Mets’ first run came in the second inning when Jose Reyes hit a RBI single to center field.

Reyes also scored the Mets’ second run of the game in the sixth with a bases-loaded walk.

The Mets scored one run off the Padres’ bullpen in the eighth inning as Wilmer Flores hit a solo home run to center field.

Overall the Mets drew four walks and collected five hits on the night.

On Deck
