The New York Mets (40-47) defeated the Colorado Rockies (52-40) 14-2 in their first game back from the All-Star break on Friday at Citi Field.

Pitching

Jacob deGrom (9-3, 3.65 ERA) started for the Mets looking to win his sixth game in a row. He did exactly what he had to do and the offense backed him up with 14 runs to help him collect the win. He tossed eight innings giving up four hits, two runs (one earned), and one walk while striking out 11 batters.

Josh Edgin pitched the ninth and turned in a scoreless frame to end the game despite loading the bases.

 

Offense

The Mets faced Jon Gray (2-0, 3.75 ERA) of the Rockies who made his sixth start of 2017. After being kept scoreless in the first, the Mets got two runs off Gray in the second. Travis d’Arnaud drove in Lucas Duda on a groundout to first for one run. The second run came on a deGrom single to center field.

The Mets went off in the third as they collected six hits, two walks, and six runs. T.J. Rivera drove in two of those runs on a RBI double to center field. He then came around to score after Jose Reyes hit a single to center. After d’Arnaud walked, Gray was taken out of the game. Even with Gray out of the game, Michael Conforto was able to drive in one run on a groundout and Asdrubal Cabrera was able to drive in two runs on a single.

The first home run of the game came in the fourth inning as Rivera hit a solo shot to stretch the Mets’ lead to 9-1.

Three more runs were tacked on for the Mets in the seventh off a Conforto home run.

Cabrera walked in the eighth with the bases loaded to make it a 13-2 game. Yoenis Cespedes followed with his fourth hit of the day to drive in the 14th and final run of the game.

Overall on the night, the Mets had 19 hits and seven walks. Seven Mets had multi-hit games including deGrom. He now has 12 hits on the season in 42 at bats for a .286 batting average.

On Deck-

The Mets continue their three-game series with Colorado on Saturday at Citi Field. Seth Lugo (3-2, 4.59 ERA) will toe the rubber against Tyler Chatwood (6-10, 4.42 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.
