The Mets took the final game of the four game set with the Nationals by a score 5-1 on Sunday afternoon.
This was the first time the Mets defeated the Nationals at Citi Field this season after dropping the first six.
Pitching:
Jacob deGrom followed up his dominant start last time out with another strong outing this afternoon.
DeGrom allowed only one unearned run on three hits while walking two and striking out six over eight innings.
Addison Reed worked a scoreless ninth inning in a non-save situation to secure the win for the Mets.
Offense:
DeGrom helped his own cause and hit the first home run of his career, getting the scoring for the Mets started in the third.
Travis d’Arnaud singled home a run in the fourth inning. Lucas Duda was originally called out at the plate, but after Matt Wieters dropped the ball, Duda scored.
Michael Conforto was on base four times, racked up two hits and two walks, and drove in a pair of runs, including a run scoring hit in the sixth.
Lucas Duda reached base three times, as he singled, doubled, and walked.
T.J. Rivera had his second career four hit day, going 4-for-4 from the hot corner.
Curtis Granderson drove in a run with an RBI single in the seventh to give the Mets a comfortable 5-1 lead that they would hold on to the remainder of the game.
