The New York Mets (53-62) defeated the Philadelphia Phillies (43-72) 6-2 on Sunday afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. It was their first win on Sunday since June 25 and brought their Sunday record to 6-13.
Pitching:
Chris Flexen (1-1, 8.49 ERA) made his fourth career start for the Mets, looking to build off the success he experienced during his last start when he picked up his first MLB win. He lasted five innings and limited the Phillies to six hits, four walks, and two runs while striking out a career-high five batters.
Chasen Bradford pitched the sixth and had a 1-2-3 inning. Bradford has held the opposition to one hit, two walks, and one run in his last five appearances, spanning eight innings.
Jerry Blevins came into the game for the seventh inning and kept the Phillies from scoring.
Paul Sewald was called upon for the eighth inning and pitched a perfect frame.
AJ Ramos pitched the ninth in a non-save situation. He finished the game with a scoreless outing.

Offense:
The Mets faced Zach Eflin (1-3, 5.67 ERA) of the Phillies who was coming off his first win of the season in his last start on Tuesday.
Michael Conforto greeted Eflin with a two-run homer in the first inning.
Eflin settled down to retire 12 of his next 13 batters faced. However, Jose Reyes then doubled with one out in the fifth and Curtis Granderson unloaded for a two-out, two-run homer later in the inning.
The Mets tacked on two runs against the Phillies’ bullpen in the seventh inning. Granderson drove in one of those runs with a RBI single and Wilmer Flores drove in the other run with a RBI single as well.
On Deck:
The Mets play the New York Yankees in the Subway Series beginning on Monday. The Mets will send Rafael Montero (1-8, 6.06 ERA) to the hill at Yankee Stadium. The Yankees have yet to officially announce who they will start. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
