The New York Mets lost the rubber match of their three game set to the Colorado Rockies by the score of 5-4 on Thursday afternoon.

Pitching

Rafael Montero was a mixed bag in this one. He started out well and showed some positive signs but struggled facing the dangerous heart of the Rockies order. He was also plagued with the long ball, but on a more promising note, he only walked one and got double plays when he needed it.

His final line read: 5.2 IP, 10 H, 4 ER, BB, 6 K

Josh Smoker relieved Montero and retired the only two batters he faced. Erik Goeddel came in and allowed a double to DJ LeMahieu who was thrown out trying to stretch it into a triple. Smoker then proceeded to allow a double to Nolan Arenado and was pulled for Jerry Blevins who put away his only batter.

Hansel Robles came into a tied game in the eighth and retired the side on eight pitches despite a visit from Ray Ramirez to check out what looked like a groin or leg issue.

Then the trouble started.  Hansel started the next inning and hit Jonathan Lucroy to put the leadoff man on. Terry Collins then intentionally walked Charlie Blackmon to face LeMahieu even though Robles has better splits against lefties than righties. LeMahieu walked to set up the bases loaded situation. Robles then walked Arenado to force home the winning run. It was the second walk-off for Arenado this series.

Offense

The offense went quietly for the first few innings until Yoenis Cespedes woke them up in the fourth with a 440 foot solo home run. The next inning, Rafael Montero helped his own cause with a RBI single.

In the sixth, Curtis Granderson walked to leadoff the inning and came around to score on a two-out RBI double from Rene Rivera.

Michael Conforto led off the next inning with a single and scored on an Asdrubal Cabrera RBI double.
