With Zack Greinke finally off the market, teams will now key in on free agent pitchers Kyle Lohse, Ryan Dempster, Edwin Jackson and Anibal Sanchez.
The best of these pitchers is undoubtedly Kyle Lohse who is coming off another solid season and is now drawing interest from the Texas Rangers, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Angels, but that list could now grow to include the Toronto Blue Jays and other teams as well.
Scott Boras who represents Lohse has been holding back on pushing his righthander until Greinke was signed, so you can now expect to start seeing a lot more buzz as Lohse becomes the best available starting pitching option in free agency.
The Cardinals had been hoping to re-sign Lohse, but that now appears to be very unlikely due to financial constraints.
Last season, Lohse led the National league in winning percentage with an amazing 16-3 record to go with a 2.86 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 3.76 K/BB rate to finish seventh in the Cy Young voting.
Lohse, 34, was looking for a three year deal in the $45-50 million range, but the annual dollars could go up if he becomes the focus of a bidding war as was the case with Greinke.
