Rafael Montero tossed three scoreless innings on Monday, allowing just three hits while striking out four batters for the GCL Mets.

Montero continues to make progress as he seeks to return from a sore rotator cuff. He’s been out since April 29.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that Rafael Montero logged an inning of work in the Gulf Coast League on Tuesday.

Montero had been placed on the 15-day disabled list with “rotator cuff inflammation” back on April 30. At the time, Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins initially said it was “nothing serious.”

Montero was originally set to be sent down to Triple-A Las Vegas after his last start on April 18 against Miami, but that was rescinded and he was placed on the major league disabled list instead, accumulating major league service time.

In five games for the Mets this season (one start) Montero pitched 10 innings, allowing nine hits on five earned runs.

In his two starts for the 51’s this year, he pitched 7 and 2/3rd’s innings, with a 5.87 ERA.
