Well Mets fans, we have some potential good news on an off day!

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, the team is discussing the possibility of having Jacob deGrom make his first rehab start on Sunday night with the Low-A St. Lucie Mets.

DeGrom threw 27 pitches during his second successful live batting practice session on Wednesday afternoon in Port St. Lucie. That marked the third time he’s thrown in a week and he was again able to increase his pitch count.

Mets manager Buck Showalter told reporters pregame Wednesday afternoon that the team was going to wait and see how the right-hander feels today and then they’ll discuss his next step. He did add that deGrom is upbeat about where he is in his recovery.

“We’ll see how he feels tomorrow (Thursday), it went well though. We have a schedule worked out and know what will happen if everything feels well tomorrow but don’t want to get ahead of it yet. Tomorrow if he feels good we’ll be able to talk about that next step,” Showalter added.

It appears all did indeed go well for the right-hander and he may be looking ready to take that next step on his road back to the big league level. DeGrom hasn’t pitched in a regular-season game since July 7, 2021, so he will likely require a handful of rehab starts before joining the big league team.

Either way, it’s certainly nice to see some potential good news on both deGrom and Max Scherzer on back-to-back days.
