New York Mets pitcher Yoan López has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing pitches at Kyle Schwarber of the Philadelphia Phillies during the top of the ninth inning of Sunday night’s game at Citi Field. Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s Senior Vice President for On-Field Operations, made the announcement.

In addition, Mets manager Buck Showalter has received a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine as a result of López’s intentional throwing. Showalter will serve his suspension tonight, when the Mets are scheduled to begin a home series against Atlanta.

Unless appealed, the suspension of López, who was optioned following Sunday night’s game, is scheduled to begin immediately upon his selection to the active roster. If López elects to appeal, then the discipline will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
