The New York Mets were down 3-2 against the Miami Marlins on Thursday with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and Michael Conforto coming to the plate.
Conforto smashed a solo homer to right field that tied the game and Todd Frazier would follow with a walk-off shot to give the Mets a 4-3 win in game 1 of the doubleheader, It was Conforto’s fourth homer in the last five games and his 14th since the All-Star break (tied for 7th most in MLB).
The 25-year-old had another big hit in game 2 with a two-run double in the sixth inning that gave the Mets a 3-2 lead in a 5-2 win. Conforto finished the game going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Conforto’s power has been on display in September (6 homers) and he’s slashing .270/.338/.531 with nine doubles, 14 homers and 38 RBI in the second half of the season.
The sweet swing of the lefty has now produced at least 25 homers for the second straight season. He’s boosted his slash line up to .238/.342/.433 in 2018 and his WAR to 2.2.
