Mike Pelfrey willed his way through six innings while Carlos Beltran and Jason Bay supplied all the power as the Mets beat the Dodgers 6-0, ensuring at least a series split as the Mets win their third straight game.

Game Notes

Mike Pelfrey worked himself in and out of trouble today, going six innings while giving up five hits, walking two, hitting two batters and striking out two. Pelfrey was consistently hit, and it wasn’t cheap contact when hit. Pelfrey consistently put himself in the line of fire, and somehow managed to get himself out of it every time, with the help of the defense of course.

The bullpen today only had to bridge three innings, which is always a plus. Pedro Beato came out and pitched a solid inning, only allowing a double that eluded Carlos Beltran and turned into a triple, before striking out Matt Kemp with a slider. Beato has looked great recently, staying in the zone and rarely walking hitters. Jason Isringhausen came out for the eighth, and seemed hittable yet again, struggling with some control.

Angel Pagan got VERY lucky in the fifth when he was caught in a rundown between first and second, but Dodgers second baseman James Loney threw the ball away. That allowed Carlos Beltran to get up to bat, and blast a two-run homer, his 13th of the season.

The hitting star of the game was no doubt Jason Bay who rocketed not one, but TWO home runs as he continues to look more and more like the slugger the Mets thought they were getting when they signed him last season. Bay extended his hitting streak to eight games, and is batting .366 with three home runs and 12 RBI in that span. Lets hope this trend continues.

Turning Point

When Beltran launched the home run in the fifth. When the Mets couldn’t put together hits, Beltran had a big hit.

Game Ball

Jason Bay, 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBI. Jason seems to be working his way out of this slump in quite a large way.

On Deck

The Mets will look to finish up the West Coast trip strong, sending Jonathon Niese to the mound to face-off against Dodgers righty Hideki Kuroda. Game time is 10:10 P.M.
