The New York Mets held their own against a pair of AL West playoff contenders this week, losing two out of three to the Texas Rangers before salvaging a series win over the Seattle Mariners. The name of the game was the team’s unsung heroes as both DJ Stewart and Tylor Megill took the reins and made the most of their opportunities as the season winds down.

Hitter of the Week

Just when you thought Stewart possibly sustain his torrid streak, he one-upped himself yet again and put on a show at the plate.

Stewart’s week opened with a 1-for-3 performance against the Rangers on Monday, which included a solo shot off Jon Gray in the fifth inning. His recent power surge didn’t curtail from there either, as he came through with his second multi-home run day of the season in Tuesday’s game with a solo homer in the second inning and a game-tying two-run bomb in the eighth before also walking off the game on a hit-by-pitch in the 10th.

Stewart couldn’t muster up much on either Friday or Sunday against the Mariners, but he went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run in the fourth inning of Saturday’s contest.

Stewart finished the week hitting .278/.381/.944 with four homers and eight RBIs.

Pitcher of the Week

Amidst a turbulent and overall rough season, Tylor Megill may be finding a silver lining as he continues to round into form heading into the offseason.

Megill’s first start of the week came on Monday against Texas, and it very well may be the best outing of his campaign thus far. He allowed just one earned run on five hits and one walk to go with eight strikeouts in six innings of work and looked like he was in command for most of the night.

Megill’s second start came on Sunday against Seattle. He was tagged by the long ball twice and allowed three earned runs, but he earned the win and showed improved command while also striking out six hitters in his 5 2/3 innings of work.

Megill, in total, threw 11 1/3 innings this week while allowing four earned runs and striking out 14 batters.
