The New York Mets had a rough week, dropping consecutive series’ to both the division rival Philadelphia Phillies and St. Louis Cardinals.

Robinson Cano and Robert Gsellman though were two bright spots for the club as they wrapped up their ten game road trip.

Pitcher of the Week – Robert Gsellman

After a rough start to his season, Gsellman has seemingly gotten into the swing of things and has been quite impressive over his last few appearances.

Gsellman’s stats over this past week were as follows:

5 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 2 K, 1 BB, .000 AVG, 0.20 WHIP

The dynamic reliever has seemingly found his groove at a much needed time as the bullpen has been heavily taxed with the struggles of the starting rotation as of late.

Gsellman will look to continue to be a dominant piece a bullpen that was heralded prior to the beginning of the season.

Hitter of the Week – Robinson Cano

As with Gsellman, Cano found himself off to a sluggish start to his season but as of late has turned it up a notch and is seemingly starting to show signs of the hitter he has been in past seasons.

Cano’s stats over this past week:

.360 AVG, 25 AB, 9 H, 4 2B, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 6 K

The Mets offense has been impressive in the early goings of 2019 and having Cano show his ability to continue to produce will be a huge plus to an already powerful offense.
