Although last night’s afternoon matchup against the Atlanta Braves was postponed due to rain, the Mets still had six games played this week. A rough week, the Mets went 2-4 getting one win against both the Nationals and Braves.

However, two players that were obvious bright spots for the Mets were Asdrubal Cabrera and Jacob deGrom. Both players brought their A-game this week, although the Mets could only pull out two wins, with the Braves gaining on the NL East leading Mets.

Hitter of the Week – Asdrubal Cabrera

In the Mets’ five match ups against NL East rivals, Cabrera was able to put it all together at the plate.

He batted .423 logging 11 hits in 26 at-bats, while driving in seven runs. He also had a team-high four doubles this week, as well as smashing a home run. His OPS for the week was 1.126.

His best game came against the series opener against the Nationals, where they lost the lead in the eighth inning, which was probably the Mets’ worst inning of the season.

Cabrera went 4-for-5, while blasting a home run and driving in two runs. The only game he did not get a hit in this week, was the game after this excellent performance.

Cabrera has been playing great all season long, and has been one of the most consistent hitters this season for the Mets. If he can continue to produce at a solid rate for the rest of the year, it will be huge for this team.

Pitcher of the Week – Jacob Degrom

Jacob deGrom had two stellar games, but unfortunately did not receive a win for either of them.

His line for the week:

Two games, 14.1 IP, 10 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 22 K, .196 AVG, 0.91 WHIP.

Simply put, deGrom was amazing this week. This weeks production is the type of production the Mets will need from him this year, as he and Syndergaard head the starting rotation.

However, this team needs to find a way to get him some wins, because he earns them. Somehow, the Mets always find away to take that win away from him.

One of the most impressive things I see in deGrom’s stat line is his walk to strikeout ratio. Allowing just three walks while striking out 22 batters shows solid, efficient pitching from deGrom. With most of the starting staff having trouble getting late into games, this is great to see.

He went into the seventh inning in both of his outings, while striking out double digit batters in both outings as well.

Sporting a 2.53 ERA for the season so far, with a 2-0 record, deGrom looks to be continuing this season right where he left off.

Wrap Up

Both Asdrubal Cabrera and Jacob deGrom have been anchors for this team so far. With Cabrera producing as one of the best hitters on this team, and Degrom pitching lights out, they were able to carry this team this week. Although it was a rough week, the Mets had plenty of opportunities to win the games they lost. However, the play of Cabrera and deGrom was a bright spot for this team this week.
