In a stunning surprise announcement this afternoon, the CDC is now advising that people who are fully vaccinated against coronavirus no longer need to wear masks while indoors or outdoors.

Physical distancing in either large or small outdoor gatherings is also being waived which should lead to those packed ballparks we have sorely missed.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky made the announcement during a White House COVID-19 briefing Thursday.

Fully vaccinated individuals are still advised to wear masks while in crowded indoor settings such as trains, busses and hospitals.

“We have all longed for this moment when we can get back to some sense of normalcy,” Walensky said.

“Based on the continuing downward trajectory of cases, the scientific data on the performance of our vaccines and our understanding of how the virus spreads, that moment has come for those who are fully vaccinated.”

This is amazing news for the country of course, but as a Mets fan I can’t wait to see a packed Citi Field cheering on our team again, as they push toward winning the NL East and heading into the postseason.

Let’s do this!
