New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson addressed the media prior to Tuesday night’s game with the Atlanta Braves and provided an update on catcher Kevin Plawecki.
Plawecki, 27, is about two weeks from returning, according to Alderson. He has been sidelined since the middle of April with a fracture in his hand.
His tandem partner, Travis d’Arnaud is out for the remainder of the season with a torn UCL.
The Mets have been rolling with the duo of Jose Lobaton and Tomas Nido in Plawecki’s absence, but neither have been particularly strong offensively.
Getting Plawecki back will give the Mets a big boost behind the dish.
In seven games this year, he has hit .150/.393/.200 with one RBI. Last year, in 118 plate appearances he hit .260/ 364/ .400. This includes a very strong finish to his season.
