In game one of the New York Mets doubleheader against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, Kevin Plawecki became only the fourth catcher in team history to reach base six times in a game without reaching via an error.

The other previous catchers to accomplish that feat were Gary Carter, Mike Piazza (twice) and Todd Hundley.

Plawecki went 4-for-4 with two walks, three RBI, double and three runs scored as part of the Mets record 24-4 win. This career game followed his Wednesday grand slam.

The 27-year-old catcher is now slashing .237/.346/.408 on the season with 10 doubles, two triples and four homers in 179 plate appearances. He’s also posted a 1.4 WAR in 2018 after posting a 0.7 WAR in only 37 games last season. His current 110 wRC+ ranks 10th among catchers with at least 150 plate appearances this year.

Plawecki has been given a majority of the playing time recently over Devin Mesoraco, and that will likely continue as the Mets evaluate his worth going into the 2019 season.
