The Mets announced that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Antonio Santos off waivers from the Colorado Rockies.

A 25-year-old from the Dominican Republic, Santos appeared in seven games with the Rockies in 2021, going 0-1 with a 4.76 ERA across 11.1 innings. He walked five and struck out 10.

He made his major league debut in 2020, making 10 appearances since. He is 0-2 with an 8.83 ERA in 17.1 innings. He has nine walks and 14 strikeouts.

Santos has fared a little better in the minor leagues. He’s appeared in 135 games over six minor league seasons, 102 of which were starts. Santos is 27-42 with a 4.83 ERA with 133 walks and 497 strikeouts. He signed with Colorado as a non-drafted free agent in July 2015.

The Mets 40-man roster now stands at 39 players with the claim of Santos. He has a four-pitch mix of fastball, slider, curveball, and changeup. He averages 95.5 with his fastball while his other three pitches hover around the mid-to-low 80s.
