You can’t win them all, and so the Mets streak ends at eight after an ill-fated fourth inning that saw the Phillies open the flood gates on the heels of two dropped pop-ups by Jose Reyes and Alex Cora. It went all down hill for the Mets and Mike Pelfrey after that as those cheesy bums anihilated the Mets 10-0.
Game Notes
Mike Pelfrey started today for the Mets, and things were going pretty good through the first three innings, but then all hell broke loose after that. Pelf was charged with six earned runs in the fourth inning and eight hits which included a three-run blast from Shane Victorino. His scoreless streak, which is still imopressive, ends at 27 innings, but his ERA took a big hit and now stands at 2.40 for the season, nearly triple what it was entering the game. Shake it off Pelf and we’ll see you in five days.
The bullpen which had been doing a solid job of late, took their lumps too this afternoon, as Raul Valdes gave up another four runs in relief of Pelfrey, despite tallying six strileouts in his three innings of work. Manny Acosta pitched the final inning, a perfect one at that, but the damge was already done.
The offense was pretty offensive to put it mildly, and the Mets were not able to figure out Roy Halladay who went all the way on the complete game three hit shutout. We’ll be seeing more of him in the future, so I hope the Mets bats are better prepared for his mastery next time around.
