Prior to the Yankees series, many fans (and possibly rightfully so) felt the season was about to be over.

Over?! Did you say… over? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

And it ain’t over now. Cause when the goin’ gets tough…the tough get goin!!!

What happened to the Mets fan base I used to know? Where’s the spirit? Where’s the guts? Huh?

(end scene)

The Phillies come into New York tonight, looking for a way to get Jerry Manuel fired. This is it boys. For me, you win this series, and the Wilpon’s should come out and say, enough is enough. Jerry & friends are staying for the 2010 season, and we’re going to finish the year with them and we’re going to do everything in our power to give them whatever they need to succeed. If that means making an offer for Oswalt, go for it.

Let this be the last time Jerry has to give a pre-game speech that sounds like it could be his last. If the Mets can take this series, and the Wilpon’s take the advice I’ve given, it could pay dividends for this team.

I’m sick and tired of hearing what a great team the Phillies have. Screw em!

(Lots of movie references)

The Mets have to set the tone for this series tonight. They can’t come out and rely on R.A. Dickey to throw a gem. Jamie Moyer is on the hill, and the Mets lineup must put him out to pasture.

The one thing that may go against Dickey tonight is the Phillies actually faced Tim Wakefield a few days ago. Granted, he shut them down. It’s got to be easier to face a knuckleballer days after another knuckleballer though.

The Yankees series was fun of course, but this series is for keeps. We play for keeps!

As Mets Fan in Boston said on MMO Chat last night, all Mets fans in attendance should bring a pair of binoculars to tonight’s game. I love the idea, and hope some of you do it.

This series is about our season, it’s about our manager’s career, it’s about Charlie Manuel claiming the Mets cheat when he got caught, and it’s about the friggin Flyers making the Cup Finals last night!

Surprisingly enough, Placido Polanco actually managed to get 11 AB’s versus Dickey in his career in the big leagues. He’s an impressive .364 in those Abs so pay attention to him.

We’ve gone over the Mets numbers against Moyer before. Pretty much everybody except Pagan owns this guy. Last time they faced, Moyer got off the hook because the Phillies magically tattooed Johan Santana.

Game 2 showcases Hisanori Takahashi against Joe Blanton. I think this is the game where Takahashi cements his spot in the rotation no matter what happens with Maine or Perez. Takahashi is a professional pitcher. He’s not a young kid who hasn’t been in big spots before. He’s always seemed unfazed by the negatives that surround him. He reminds me of Tom Glavine (odd that he wears the same number.) Here’s hoping he doesn’t pitch in a big September game though huh?

Joe Blanton has the Mets number. He’s 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA. He absolutely owns Jose Reyes. No, seriously. Reyes is 0-9 against Blanton.

The final game is huge. You’ve got Mike Pelfrey trying to redeem himself from his last Phillies start, against Cole Hamels. Pelfrey was dominated by the Phillies in a 10-0 defeat with Halladay on the mound. Pelfrey is a competitor and you know he’s going to be looking to win this game for his team.

This team should know they need some help on the mound. The Mississippi native playing in Houston has requested a trade, and this is the 2010 Mets chance to show him they are a contender, with his help.

This is the Mets chance to show their fans, their owner, their manager, and everybody in the league that they are for real. They may be an up and down team, but when push comes to shove, they can be a playoff contender.

2 out of 3 would be nice here, but man oh man would a 3 game sweep be Amazin’.
