In his first at-bat on Friday night against the Braves at Citi Field, Mets slugger Pete Alonso tied the major league rookie home run record by hitting his 52nd blast of the year. The record was previously set by Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge in 2017.

Alonso, 24, also became the second National League rookie since 1900 to have at least 100 runs and 100 RBI, joining future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols.

He shattered the Mets home run record of 41 and now trails the RBI record by five with 119 on the season.
