With his go-ahead three-run homer in the fifth inning of Saturday night’s tilt versus the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field, New York Mets rookie slugger, Pete Alonso, tied the franchise’s single-season home run record with his 41st blast of the season.

Off Atlanta’s Max Fried with Joe Panik and Amed Rosario at second and third, respectively, representing the tying runs, Alonso unleashed a 112 MPH exit velocity, 451-foot rocket into the batters’ eye just to the right of the apple in center field to give the Mets a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth.

With 32 games remaining to break the current three-way tie between Alonso, Todd Hundley (1996) and Carlos Beltran (2006), it appears the Mets will have a new single-season home run king once all is said and done.

Alonso is now the first rookie since Ralph Kiner in 1946 to tie or break their team’s single-season home run record.

We’ll keep you posted once the record falls!
