MLB announced Monday that Pete Alonso earned National League Player of the Week honors. It’s the fourth time in his career he’s earned the achievement. The Polar Bear hit .429/556/1.603 last week and smashed four homers and seven RBIs. Colton Cowser of the Orioles took home the honors for the American League.

It’s noteworthy for Alonso and the Mets, as Pete began the year on a slow foot. Through his first nine games, the slugger hit a measly .184/.225/.342 with a wRC+ of 58. Fast forward a week, and Alonso looks like the hitter the Mets remember. The team struggled offensively, with the likes of Brandon Nimmo, Francisco Lindor and Jeff McNeil getting off to slow starts.

Alonso, now in his walk year, recently eclipsed his 500 RBI career mark on April 5, making him the 10th Met to ever reach the feat. He has a career line of .251/.342/.529/.871 and 137 OPS+. As a lifetime Met thus far, the first baseman has clobbered 198 HRs, 508 RBIs and 651 hits. A former Rookie of the Year winner in 2019, he became the all-time rookie home run leader when he hit his 53rd, beating Aaron Judge‘s former record.
